Hello Circle K’ers!
How was your weekend?
Mine was FANTASTIC!
This past weekend was the District Board’s first board meeting and training session, held in Ottawa. I must say how grateful I am to you guys for producing such amazing young leaders that now join me in making up the Eastern Canada District Board 2009-2010.
What really strikes me is the amazing diversity we have on our board; a diversity of backgrounds, of talents and of ideas. At the same time, we are united in our vision to provide you with everything you need to be successful.
DISTRICT GOALS 09-10:
Much our weekend was spent hammering out the goals for the 2009-2010 year. It is vitally important to set goals because, I think you can agree, Circle K’ers have a tendency to try and save the world on top of school, work and personal obligations, and this usually causes us to fall short of our dreams. However, if we set specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and truthful goals for ourselves, we can achieve much, much more, and come so much closer to saving the world:)
The theme for the 09-10 year is Building a Foundation: Bring it all back to YOU!

This year, our focus is on setting up a foundation that will allow us to be a stable, effective and successful district. It isn’t enough to have 10 clubs with 20 members each on paper…we need to ensure that we have a network of young, dedicated leaders who are making a difference in their community. In order to do that we need to bring the focus of the board back to the club level. The success of the district is just another way of describing the collective successes of our clubs. Our job as a District Board is to provide you with the leadership, resources and assistance you need to make those successes happen.
So, without further adieu, here are the official goals for 2009-2010:
1. Achieve 50 service hours per member by March 31st, 2010.
How are we going to achieve it?
A. Facilitating 3 K-Family Interclub events (ideally one per division).
B. Promoting a District Service Project, to be chosen by August 15th, 2009.
C. Providing education and resources to clubs about Circle K International service projects and partners.
2. At least maintaining the number of active clubs in the District as compared to last year by March 31st, 2010.
How are we going to achieve it?
A. Help all active clubs pay International and District Dues in full and on-time.
B. Facilitating the reactivation of suspended and revoked clubs in the District.
C. Maintaing all active clubs in the District.
D. Provide on-going resources to clubs-in-formation.
E. Produce and recieve monthly reports on-time, at the club, division and district levels.
3. Establish a District package for clubs on dues, club training and membership recruitment/retention, and training the club leaders and executive on their roles.
4. Establish bilingualism in the District.
How are we going to achieve this?
A. Creating a bilingual website by March 31st.
B. Establish a District Translation Committee to translate District documents into both official languages.
5. Create better cohesion and unity, at all levels of the District.
How are we going to achieve this?
A. Each Lieutenant Governor will attend at least one club event for each club in his/her division.
B. Each Lieutenant Governor will hold at least three Presidents’ Council Meetings (PCMs) by March 31st.
C. Having each club send at least one representative to District Convention.
D. Sending an official Convention Package to all clubs no later than 90 days prior to District Convention.
It is so exciting to think that, if we all work together, we can achieve these goals by the end of the 09-10 year, and the District will be so much stronger as a result!
